Ghajini Hindi VS Ghajini Tamil!

Alright, I have been waiting to write this for a long time.
First of all I am just making a comparison between the two versions of the Movie. The title suggests something else. I chose the title thinking it may lure more audience ;).

Personally, I feel the two movies are totally different. The Tamil version surely depicts the struggle of a person impaired with short term memory loss, to take revenge of his girlfriend.

The Hindi one is totally about how the Hero like a wounded tiger goes all out to bash his girfriend's killers. Nowhere you feel that the short term memory loss has affected him, except for the end where he doesnt recognise the Villain himself.

In Hindi, the Villain's name is Ghajini Dharmatma. And the hero doesnt know his face but only his name. While dying Asin tells him the name of the Villain. And Hero wants to find Ghajini, hence the title.
In Tamil, the Villain's name was Laxman I suppose. And the title merely states the theme of the film.

So following is how I compare the two movies on the basis of relevant points. (Please scroll down...)

Tamil GhajiniHindi Ghajini
Entertainment QuotientHighHigh. Both are equally entertaining. Not for a second your feel bored.
Songs and their picturisationHarris Jayaraj did a Good Job. Picturisation is great for Sutrum Vizhi is good. Rest are mediocre. X-machi shows an overweight Nayanthara which was a turn off.Hindi version scores here against its Tamil counterpart. This is one Rahman's best Albums. Behka song is awesomely picturised. It is one of the best I have seen. Kaise mujhe is great (song as well as picturisation). And Jiah looks sexy in Latoo. I was really let down that the latoo song was cut. I wanted to see the full song :(. The music was driving factor for me to watch the movie.
Background scoreThe Tamil version really scores in this department. The background music was awesome. I have the Ghajini Theme music in my MP3 player. It is so awesome and used in the end fight. There is background music for each character. The police officer, the Villain. It has huge impact to portray the characters. Though it has been 2.5 years since I saw the film the background music is still on my mind. The Background score was OK. The background music when Aamir goes on a rampage is not new for Tamil movie audience. It is used in so many movies. But yes it makes impact.
ActionAction is superb. The end fight is amazing. The Hindi has an upper hand here is whst I feel after seeing it. The Action is out of the world. Aamir khan doesnt have the image that he can bash up 10-15 people. But his physique and fit of rage makes it so believable. It makes huge impact.
Hero! This is the big question? Suryah or Aamir. The comparison cannot be made. Aamir is Aamir and Suryah is Suryah.Suryah makes a mark portraying the short term memory loss patient. You really sympathize his state. He does great acting of not recognising anyone and seems to be lost. He already has a action hero image. So didnt have to do anything extra to make action scenes believable. The short term memory loss thing is totally lost in the Hindi. Aamir did not do great here. But his portrayal of anger and furiousness at what happened to his girl is superb. You really feel for him when he cries lying in the hospital bed when he knows what happened to Asin. And he has achieved an incredible physique for the movie.
HeroineAsin has done equally good in both versions.Asin is equally good in both versions.
The other heroine.Though Nayanthara is hottest heroine down south, she was quite chubby in this film. So thumbs down here. But she acted well.Definitely Jiah khan is hotter. She has done well too.
VillainThough the Villain is same in both movies, he looks more menacing and sophisticated in the Tamil Version. His equally bad twin brother joins him at the end. He comes to Chennai to hide for sometime after having killed a social activist's entire family in Calcutta. The villain doesnt seem to be so menacing except for the last scene. In fact he seemed funny with his bihari or UP accent.
Ending.Ending is pretty exciting. Suryah doesnt seem to have a chance in front of the twin Villains. And the film ends after the last Action sequence as Suryah stops his Qualis and lets women and little girls cross the road.Ending is great. In this version Hero doesnt remember the face of the Villain, but only his name. So does not recognise the Villain, as he loses the photgraph he took of his after confirming his identity. And ends up believing him that Ghajini is someone else and gets stabbed by the Villain. The film goes beyond the killing of Villain and shows a stable Sanjay Singhania. Who probaby forgets that he has taken the revenge of his girls murder. And he gets a gift from Jiah Khan. Guess what - the same cement block with his and Kalpana's foot prints on it. Nice! Good thought.

At the end, I would like to mention that I saw Tamil Ghajini twice on the Big screen. Can't do the same for the Hindi one. Though I can see the songs any number of times :).
